The newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, has expressed his commitment to assisting the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in regaining control of Kano State.
He made the statement after his swearing-in ceremony over the weekend in Kano, where he emphasized that his new ministerial role is both a platform for development and a strategic position for the APC’s political resurgence in the state.
Ata, a prominent political figure from Kano Central, acknowledged that the APC had previously governed Kano under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who is now the national chairman of the party. However, he noted that the APC lost control of the state to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections.
In a candid remark, Ata said, “APC has lost Kano State, but now it will take it back. The main challenge is Kano Central, and I am from there.”
He described his appointment as not only a ministerial responsibility but also a strategic move to help the APC regain its influence in Kano. “This position is not just about housing and urban development; it’s about creating a pathway for the APC to reconnect with the people of Kano and win back their trust,” Ata explained.
The minister also hinted at specific plans to address key issues in Kano Central, a region that plays a crucial role in the state’s political landscape, signaling that his appointment aligns with the APC’s broader goal of re-establishing its dominance in the state.
