Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended the medical team at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital in Minna for successfully carrying out the hospital’s first brain and knee surgeries.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago celebrated the achievement as a significant milestone and a major breakthrough for his administration’s efforts to enhance the state’s healthcare system.

The first brain surgery at the hospital, performed by Consultant Neurosurgeon Uthman Uthman and his team, successfully treated a 19-year-old male patient who had sustained a severe brain injury and skull fracture. The patient is currently recovering in the newly remodeled Amenity Wing of the hospital.
In a separate achievement, a team of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Abdullahi Mohammad and Mustapha Ibrahim, performed the hospital’s first total knee replacement on a 65-year-old woman suffering from advanced osteoarthritis in both knees. The patient is now undergoing ambulation exercises in the hospital’s VIP wing.
Governor Bago’s praise highlights the hospital’s growing capabilities and the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery for Niger State residents.
