Niger State Governor Swears in New Members of Electoral Commission

Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has officially sworn in the new members of the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), marking the beginning of preparations for the 2025 local government elections.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, with Senior Magistrate of Court 7, Halima Yusuf, administering the oath of office and allegiance to the chairman and members of the commission.

Governor Bago, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, expressed confidence in the new members, highlighting their esteemed reputations and longstanding contributions to the state. He emphasized that their selection was based on their strong character and distinguished service across various levels in Niger State.

“The oath of allegiance taken by the members today will now allow them to begin the preparations for the 2025 local government elections,” Bago said. “I urge them to hit the ground running and assure them that the state government will provide all necessary support to ensure their success.”

Mohammed Imam, the newly appointed chairman of the commission, expressed his gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve. He acknowledged the substantial task ahead, especially in managing the numerous political parties involved in the electoral process.

Imam assured both the governor and the people of Niger State that the commission would adhere strictly to all established guidelines and fulfill its mandate without fail.

Chairman: Mohammed Imam

Permanent Commissioner I: M.A. Liman

Permanent Commissioner II: Nasiru Ubandiya

Permanent Commissioner III: Yahaya Idris Abara

Permanent Commissioner IV: Capt. Mohammed Baro

Permanent Commissioner V: Kabiru Tanko Zama

Permanent Commissioner VI: Amina Guar

Permanent Commissioner VII: Ahmed Borgu

With the swearing-in complete, the commission is now set to begin preparations for the upcoming local government elections, with full backing from the state government.
