Nigeria, Germany deepen defence ties through new agreement

The Governments of Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation through the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Technical Advisory Group.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Sunday Iyogu, Principal Information Officer in the Ministry of Defence, on Friday in Abuja.

During the signing ceremony, Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described the MoU as a strategic funding arrangement that highlights the strong defense relationship between both nations. He noted that the renewed agreement aligns with the shared objectives of Nigeria and Germany, fostering long-term security collaboration and developmental goals.

Aduda emphasized the Nigerian government’s dedication to ensuring accountability and efficiency in the agreement’s implementation. He stressed that adhering to strict timelines and rigorous monitoring would be key to ensuring the successful execution of all agreed engagements. He also assured that all procurement processes under the agreement would be thoroughly evaluated to ensure value for money.

The German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp reiterated Germany’s steadfast commitment to strengthening cooperation in critical areas, particularly defense, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He commended the enduring partnership between the two countries and underscored the importance of reinforcing existing agreements to address emerging security challenges.

The renewal of this MoU marks another significant milestone in the Nigeria-Germany defense partnership, reinforcing joint efforts to enhance security, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
