Nigeria Immigration Service to Launch Contactless Passport Application System in Europe, UK, and Ireland

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to roll out its contactless passport application system across Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland on Friday, February 7, 2025. This new initiative will allow Nigerians in the Diaspora to apply for and renew their passports online, eliminating the need for in-person visits to passport centers.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by NIS spokesperson AS Akinlabi, the Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, highlighted the convenience of the system, noting that it would allow Nigerians to complete passport applications and renewals from the comfort of their homes.

Nandap shared the news during a courtesy visit to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in Abuja.

This new system follows the successful launch of the contactless passport application in Canada on November 5, 2024. Nigerians wishing to access the service can download the NIS mobile app, available on the Google Play Store, which allows them to renew their passports without requiring biometric enrollment at a Passport Center.

Akinlabi emphasized that the NIS remains committed to providing innovative and efficient services for Nigerians worldwide.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed strong support for the initiative, calling the launch in Europe a significant advancement in securing and streamlining travel document management for Nigerians abroad. She also reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to partnering with NIS to ensure the success of the initiative.

This move is expected to greatly improve passport services for Nigerians living abroad, providing a more secure and efficient process for managing travel documentation.
