Nigeria Police Force Arrests Suspected Political Thugs Ahead of Edo Elections

The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant stride in combating electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two suspected political thugs.

According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the suspects, Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, are alleged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo quarters in Igara Akoko, Edo.

The arrests were made following a tip-off regarding individuals reportedly armed and prepared to incite violence during the elections. Police operatives acted swiftly, apprehending Obanor, identified as a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 PM on the eve of the election, while Tajudeen was detained in Igara Akoko.

Upon searching the suspects, authorities recovered three locally fabricated pistols from Obanor and a homemade gun from Tajudeen.

Adejobi emphasized that these arrests demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. He stated, “The police and supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State.” The suspects are currently in custody and will face legal consequences for their actions.

The police reiterated their dedication to protecting lives and property and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through their published helplines.
