Nigeria Police Force Rescues 21 Kidnap Victims, Recovers N4.8M Ransom and Weapons in Major Operations

In a series of successful operations, the Nigeria Police Force has rescued 21 kidnap victims and seized N4.8 million in ransom money, along with weapons and ammunition, in coordinated actions across Taraba and Kano states.

The operations led to the arrest of six suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi shared the details of the operations in a statement, highlighting the police’s significant success in dismantling criminal syndicates.

The first operation took place on March 29, 2025, in Muji town, Taraba State, where police, alongside other security agencies, rescued 20 kidnapped victims along the Takum/Mararaba road.

The rescue followed a fierce gunfight with the criminals, who abandoned their captives and vehicles as they fled the scene. Two victims who sustained injuries during the encounter are currently receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad successfully apprehended a gang responsible for the March 8 kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau. After a thorough investigation, five suspects were arrested between March 18 and 19, including Tukur Lawal (alias Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim. Authorities also recovered a locally-made rifle and N4.84 million in ransom money, while Dr. Yushau was safely rescued and reunited with his family.

In a separate operation in Taraba, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested Kafinta Musa, suspected of involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and the unlawful possession of firearms. A loaded AK-49 rifle with five rounds of live ammunition was seized from the suspect.

Adejobi commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between various security agencies in ensuring the safety of communities.

He further assured the public that the police remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security nationwide.

“These operations demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order,” Adejobi said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all Nigerians and hold criminals accountable for their actions.”
