Nigerian Railway Corporation Expands Abuja-Kaduna Train Services to Meet Growing Demand

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of its train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route, increasing the number of daily trips from four to six on weekdays, specifically from Monday to Friday. This update was shared in a statement by Yakub Mohmood, Deputy Director of Public Relations, on Wednesday.

The decision to enhance services comes in response to a five-month trend analysis indicating a 22 percent rise in new passengers registering on the ticket platform for the Abuja-Kaduna service. This surge reflects a significant shift among Nigerians toward train travel, driven by the comfort, reliability, and safety that train services offer.

The NRC reiterated its commitment to improving customer satisfaction and addressing concerns related to ticket racketeering. The statement emphasized that the increase in train services is part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to meet customer demands, particularly during peak travel times.

The Acting Managing Director of NRC Ben Iloanusi, stated, “The analysis revealed a substantial increase in new passengers registering to use the Abuja-Kaduna service, highlighting the growing preference for train travel as a viable commuting option.”

In addition to the Abuja-Kaduna route, NRC has observed similar trends on the Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Port Harcourt-Aba routes, with plans already underway to enhance services on these lines as well. The corporation is committed to maintaining a strong management presence across all train service routes to ensure operational efficiency and tackle ticket racketeering.

Customers are encouraged to utilize the NRC’s online ticket platforms to take advantage of the expanded services and avoid ticket vendors. For more information, passengers can visit the NRC website at www.nrc.gov.ng.

This latest expansion follows the NRC’s recent service enhancements on the Lagos-Ibadan route, which included additional trips on Fridays and Saturdays to provide more flexible travel options for passengers.
