The troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under the auspices of Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully carried out a fighting patrol in response to a distress call from the residents and vigilantes of Yar Galadima village in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The operation took place in the early hours of December 1, 2024, when troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara were alerted to an attack by terrorists on the village at approximately 5 a.m.
According to a statement issued by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the troops swiftly responded to the distress signal, providing immediate assistance to restore order and security in the area. As they advanced towards the village, the troops encountered terrorists who had set up ambushes at two separate locations on the approach to Yar Galadima.
The troops successfully cleared both ambush sites, engaging the terrorists in fierce combat. Several militants were neutralized during the encounter, while others managed to flee. In addition to the ground assault, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma deployed aircraft for close air support, ensuring continued engagement with the fleeing terrorists. The airstrike led to the neutralization of several more militants.
The Nigerian Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorist threats in the North West region and Niger State, as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in these volatile areas.
Operation Fansan Yamma remains focused on eliminating insurgent and terrorist groups that continue to pose significant security challenges in Northern Nigeria.
