
A horrifying crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of nine individuals early Monday morning, leaving three others injured. The accident, which unfolded around 5:30 a.m. near Ayetoro, involved a Toyota bus (UYY165ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA244XC).
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson for Ogun State, Florence Okpe, the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, colliding violently with the parked truck.
The impact was catastrophic, with the bus carrying a total of 13 people – 10 male adults and 3 female adults. Tragically, nine of them, including six men and three women, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The three surviving passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for treatment.
Okpe stated that the suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and driver fatigue, leading to the driver’s loss of control. She also highlighted the critical issue of driver recklessness, emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits and the recommended 15-minute rest after every four hours of driving to avoid such tragic incidents.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to Idera Morgue in Sagamu for further examination. The FRSC’s Sector Commander expressed deep sorrow over the crash and extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.
