NIPOST Partners with Lagos State Government to Boost E-Commerce Growth

The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced plans to forge a close partnership with the Lagos State Government aimed at boosting e-commerce within the state.

This development was revealed by the Postmaster-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST,  Tola Odeyemi, during a recent courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to Odeyemi, the collaboration with the Lagos State Government will enhance NIPOST’s ability to optimize last-mile delivery, ensuring seamless connectivity across Lagos and the rest of the country. “The e-commerce sector is growing rapidly, and Lagos is leading the charge. By improving our postal and logistics services, we plan to support small businesses and individuals participating in e-commerce,” she explained.

Odeyemi, who sees Lagos as a pivotal partner in the mission to transform NIPOST, highlighted that her primary goal is to establish strategic partnerships that will modernize and improve the relevance of the service in a fast-evolving digital world. “Lagos is the economic engine of Nigeria, making it an essential partner in achieving NIPOST’s vision for the future,” she added.

She also commended the Lagos State government for its successful initiatives, particularly the programs held in December that attracted numerous visitors from the diaspora for the ‘Detty December’ events, which further showcased the state’s potential in driving economic growth.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, urged NIPOST to rethink its approach to service delivery and innovation. He encouraged the postal service to leverage technology in transforming its operations and enhancing the ease of doing business in Lagos and beyond. “Challenge the status quo and aim for sustainable change. Think outside the box and make a difference. If NIPOST is to meet the needs of today and tomorrow, change is necessary,” Sanwo-Olu advised Odeyemi and her team.

The partnership comes as NIPOST has reported a remarkable 275% increase in revenue for 2024. Odeyemi credited this success to the Service’s focus on blocking financial loopholes and enhancing service delivery, which has led to greater patronage of NIPOST’s offerings.

To build on this success, NIPOST has already embarked on a series of renovation projects, including the upgrade of key locations in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna. A significant part of the initiative is the modernization of NIPOST’s Postal Institute, a crucial step in the agency’s long-term transformation and change management strategy.

With these efforts, NIPOST is positioning itself for sustained growth while reinforcing its commitment to enhancing postal services, facilitating e-commerce, and supporting economic development across Nigeria.
