NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, and its joint venture partner, NIPCO Gas Ltd, have signed a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd.
In a statement released by NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the agreement involves the supply of natural gas to Ssonic Petroleum’s planned LNG plant in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State, marking a significant boost for Nigeria’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sector.
Soneye described the deal as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s gas industry and drive industrial growth. The NGML-NIPCO Unincorporated Joint Venture will supply 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the Ssonic Petroleum LNG plant for the next 20 years.
“This agreement aligns with our vision to increase domestic gas utilization, enhance energy security, and establish natural gas as the fuel of choice for Nigeria’s economic transformation,” the statement read.
According to NNPC Ltd, the partnership also supports Nigeria’s energy transition by promoting gas as a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative fuel.
“Gas plays a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and achieving global climate goals. This deal is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader commitment to strengthening local gas infrastructure, attracting investments, and ensuring Nigeria fully taps into its vast gas resources to drive sustainable economic development,” Soneye added.
