The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dismissed rumors of an explosion at the Warri refinery, confirming that there has been no such incident.
According to NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the refinery is currently loading eight trucks of diesel and kerosene per day, following a deliberate reduction in operations on January 25.
Soneye clarified in a statement that reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) were entirely false. He explained that on January 25, operations at WRPC Area 1 were intentionally scaled back to carry out necessary maintenance work on select equipment, including field instruments, to ensure stable operations.
“These maintenance works are critical to ensuring the production of high-quality products, such as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Kerosene (Kero),” Soneye said. He reassured that the routine maintenance was proceeding as planned and that Area 1 would resume full operations in the coming days. Despite the ongoing maintenance, AGO loading has continued at an average of eight trucks per day, with enough supply to support ongoing operations.
Soneye concluded by emphasizing NNPCL’s commitment to uninterrupted product supply and thanked stakeholders for their patience and cooperation as the essential maintenance activities are completed.
