North Central Labour Party Chairmen Reaffirm Support for Julius Abure Following Legal Victory

Labour Party chairmen from the North Central states have reaffirmed their commitment to embattled National Chairman Julius Abure, aiming to strengthen the party’s national presence.

They extended their congratulations to Abure for his recent legal victory at the Federal High Court in Abuja, which upheld his leadership and validated the March 2024 Nnewi national convention, where he secured a second term.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the National Vice Chairman for the North Central Zone Ibrahim Idoko, the leaders commended the judiciary’s decision, viewing it as a testament to Nigeria’s legal system and the Labour Party’s commitment to democratic principles.

Idoko, who also chairs the Benue State Labour Party, praised Justice Emeka Nwite for instructing the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize Abure’s leadership. He emphasized that the ruling confirmed the legality of the Nnewi convention, reinforcing Abure’s position as the legitimate National Chairman.

“The judgment on October 8, 2024, reaffirms Barrister Julius Abure’s leadership, and we are grateful to the judiciary for upholding the rule of law. The Labour Party remains united and focused on promoting the welfare of the Nigerian people,” the statement read.

Idoko urged all aggrieved members to set aside their differences and collaborate to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming 2027 general elections. “We call on all party members to join hands with the Abure-led committee to build our party as we prepare to rescue Nigeria in 2027,” he stated.

The forum of chairmen includes representatives from the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau states, all expressing unwavering support for Abure’s leadership.

However, it is important to note that a faction of the Labour Party, led by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has rejected the court’s ruling and plans to challenge it at the Court of Appeal.
