The Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed that 52 percent of the ongoing road construction projects initiated by the current administration are concentrated in Northern Nigeria. He praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the necessary funding and providing leadership for the construction of the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
Umahi made this statement during an inspection of a section of the 258km, 3-lane Carriageway (Section 2, Phase 2A: CH 120+000-CH 378+000) in Gulumbe, Kebbi State, which forms a significant part of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway. He explained that the emphasis on the northern region reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure nationwide.
A statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday, highlighted that the four major road projects initiated by the President cover all six geopolitical zones of the country.
The statement noted, “When aggregated, the Northern zones account for 52 percent of the road projects currently ongoing across the country. The President is working across the entire country. This reflects Mr. President’s belief that every region matters and no region should be left behind.”
Umahi also mentioned that the Coastal Highway project, which stretches from Lagos to Calabar, was originally envisioned by the President during his tenure as governor of Lagos State nearly 25 years ago. He described its realization as the fulfillment of a long-held dream that has now come to fruition under the current administration.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, expressed gratitude to the President for his support and the numerous projects being executed in the state. He emphasized that the inspection highlights the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and transportation, key enablers of growth as outlined in the eight-point Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, also affirmed that the project “is a promise kept by the President and that the road must be completed.”
