The sports industry has been strategically repositioned by the National Sports Commission, which has redeployed 57 Secretaries-General and sports executives to different National Sports Federations.
In a statement released Friday in Abuja, Olumide Bamiduro, the Director of the Federation of Elite Athletes of the NSC, said that five officers and 57 Secretaries-General had already been relocated.
He stated that the decision aligned with the vision of the NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, which was aimed at revitalising the sector.
“The mandate is clear. We are to undertake these changes to achieve the results and position the industry to attract private and corporate investments, thereby driving the growth of our sports economy,” Bamiduro stated.
According to Bamiduro, the Country’s Sports Authority has ordered the Federation Establishment and Appointment Department to follow through with the new postings.
The directive outlines the commission’s strong commitment to enhancing the functionality and performance of sports federations across the country.
“They are expected to play pivotal roles in steering the sports sector towards its new direction, focused on innovation, grassroots/elite development and economic growth.”
Some of the affected sports federations are Athletics, Handball, Para-Sports, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Table tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling, among others.
