The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a residential property in Rivers State used to store illegally refined petroleum products.
The illegal storage facility, located in Elelewo community within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, contained large storage tanks and numerous cans filled with illicitly refined petroleum products.
Joachim Okafor, the NSCDC State Commandant for Rivers, led a team from the Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit to the site. The discovery was made possible by the deployment of the Corps’ latest technology for tracking illegal crude oil theft.
Commandant Okafor emphasized that aside from the significant economic damage caused by such activities, crude oil theft also poses severe environmental and health risks to local communities.
