NSCDC Impounds 70,000 Litres Truck of Stolen Crude Oil in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully intercepted a long container truck loaded with approximately 70,000 liters of stolen crude oil in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This operation was carried out by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’S SIS) following a tip-off.

In a statement released by Afolabi Babawale, National Public Relations Officer, the NSCDC revealed that the truck, equipped with an in-built storage tank, was seized near the Eleme flyover in the Elelewon area of Port Harcourt.

According to AS Dandaura, head of the CG’S SIS, operatives acted swiftly on the intelligence report and intercepted the red-head, navy blue container truck with the registration number AGL574XY.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the truck was carrying stolen crude oil, siphoned from vandalized wellheads and damaged pipelines,” Dandaura explained.

He called the act a severe case of economic sabotage, emphasizing that the NSCDC has launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits and any collaborators involved.

“The recovered exhibits include a red-head and navy blue container truck with 10 tires (Reg. No. AGL574XY) and an estimated 70,000 liters of stolen crude oil,” Dandaura added.

He further stated that after a thorough investigation, the NSCDC will seek a court order to forfeit both the truck and its contents, with the proceeds from the seizure to be deposited into the Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA).

The CG’S SIS Commander reiterated the NSCDC’s dedication to combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta and promised that all individuals linked to this incident would be brought to justice.
