NSIB begins investigation after Aircraft skidded off runway at Lagos Airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has been notified and commenced an investigation into a serious incident involving an Embraer ERJ145 with registration number 5N-BWY belonging to United Nigeria Airlines.

The Bureau said that the incident, which occurred around 06:33 p.m. on September 8, 2023, had 51 passengers and four crew members onboard.

According to a statement released by Tunji Oketunbi for the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the NSIB said the aircraft which was en-route Lagos from Abuja, on landing on runway 18R of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, skidded off the runway.

The Bureau said there were 51 passengers and 4 crew members onboard the aircraft but there was no injury or fatality.

The NSIB is, however, soliciting information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidence to assist it in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
