Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Southwest Chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has accused the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) of bias, delays, and voter disenfranchisement during the recent local government elections. Describing the election as a “sham,” Ajadi stated that the results announced by OGSIEC could not possibly reflect the will of the people.
Speaking to journalists in Abeokuta, Ajadi sharply criticized OGSIEC for its handling of the election, claiming that the numbers released were fabricated. “No votes were counted at many polling units, and the process was marred by irregularities,” he said. “Any results announced by OGSIEC would be fraudulent and must be challenged in court.”
Ajadi shared his personal experience at polling unit 027 in Adebimpe, where he waited until 4:15 PM without any sign of OGSIEC officials. Similarly, his wife, Mrs. Oyindamola Ajadi, was unable to vote at polling unit 090 in Ibafo because no electoral officers showed up. “The lack of organization was glaring,” Ajadi said. “How can we speak of credible elections when basic logistics were completely ignored? This is an affront to democracy and a betrayal of the people’s trust.”
The NNPP chieftain revealed that party agents across the state reported widespread delays and instances of harassment. He added, “Our agents informed us that in many locations, OGSIEC officials didn’t arrive until as late as 2 PM, and when they did, they brought only 50 ballot papers each for Councillors and Chairmen. Where are the rest of the ballot papers? This suggests that rigging may have been planned before the election even began.”
Ajadi called on the judiciary to ensure justice is served, urging that any manipulated results be firmly opposed. “The citizens of Ogun State deserve transparency and accountability. Announcing fraudulent results would be nothing less than stealing from the people in broad daylight,” he said.
