Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recent Ondo State governorship election, has rejected the results and accused the opposition, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of engaging in “criminality” during the election.
The results were announced on Sunday following an extensive voting process on Saturday. Olayemi Akinwumi, the election Return Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC as the winner.
Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent governor of Ondo State, secured 366,781 votes, defeating Ajayi, who garnered 117,845 votes—more than twice as few as Aiyedatiwa.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Ayo Fadaka, Ajayi explained that he had remained silent since the announcement of the results to allow time to investigate the alleged “criminality” carried out by the APC and INEC.
Ajayi also indicated his intention to take legal action against both INEC and the APC over the election process.
