Ondo Decides 2024: PDP Gov Candidate Agboola Ajayi Wins Polling Unit

The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Agboola Ajayi has won his polling unit.

Agboola who voted at Apoi Ward II, Unit 004 in Kiribo, Ese Odo Council Area of the state on Saturday, polled 194 votes to defeat his main rival, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress who scored 003 votes.

Agboola alongside his wife, arrived at the polling booth at around 10:36 am and they were given the opportunity to vote before others who were in the queue.

The former deputy governor earlier voted at his Polling Unit alongside his wife amidst the heavy presence of security agencies including the Nigerian Police and Civil Defence.

The couple were accredited at about 10:45 a.m. for voting, chatted briefly with voter’s before leaving the polling unit with his black Jeep.

He said it took him 10 minutes to cast his vote, which he believes was deliberately orchestrated to frustrate the electorate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, trailed far behind with just 3 votes. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) secured only 1 vote.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Agboola expressed displeasure over the conduct of the exercise, alleging gross irregularities in the ongoing governorship poll.

Ajayi had earlier accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias in his polling unit, adding that there were delays in voting in some parts of the state.

Ajayi also alleged cases of vote buying across the state and malfunctioning BVAS machines.

“The system has been compromised. It is sad. INEC can’t conduct elections well in one state; just one state,” Mr Ajayi said in a video clip circulating on social media.
