Senator representing Imo east and a member of the Labour Party (LP) Ezenwa Onyewuchi has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Onyewuchi’s letter of desertion on the red chamber floor on Tuesday.
The letter was read in front of the governor of Imo and chair of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) Hope Uzodimma.’
The Imo senator based his communication on Section 68(1g) of the constitution.
Thereafter, Akpabio directed the sergeant-at-arms to hand Onyewuchi a new seat on the aisle of the majority lawmakers.
The number of LP senators in the upper legislative chamber is now five.
