OpenAI releases text-to-video model, Sora, for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users
OpenAI has made a significant advancement in its AI capabilities with the launch of its text-to-video model, Sora, now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. Starting Monday, Sora is accessible in all regions where ChatGPT operates, excluding the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Sora expands OpenAI’s multimodal AI technologies, positioning the company to compete with industry giants like Meta, Google (Alphabet), and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion. While the model is currently free for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, OpenAI plans to introduce customized pricing for different user groups early next year.
Initially unveiled in February 2023 as part of a research preview phase, Sora was previously only available to safety testers. OpenAI has prioritized safety, implementing strict safeguards to prevent the creation or uploading of harmful content, such as child sexual abuse materials and deepfake videos.
By integrating Sora into its platform, OpenAI is solidifying its position as a leader in the creative AI tools market, competing head-to-head with established players in the emerging text-to-video sector.
