Osimhen’s wage enormous for United

Manchester United is reportedly unlikely to pursue a deal with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen due to the high wages he would demand, which are estimated to be around £20 million per season. The club is looking to reduce its wage bill, which stood at £365 million last season.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray after a fallout with Napoli, is expected to leave the Italian club after the 2024/25 season, with Manchester United among the clubs linked to him.

Although Osimhen’s transfer has generated significant interest, including from Arsenal and Chelsea, Manchester United’s financial advisor, Stefan Borson, believes that the striker’s wage demands would be too high for the club.

Borson pointed out that while the club may have the financial capacity to pay for Osimhen, it is unlikely to commit to such a large wage, especially with Manchester United currently undergoing a period of restructuring and cost-cutting.

Borson also suggested that Osimhen’s transfer fee—rumored to be around £62 million—would exceed what United would want to pay for a player of his age (26), especially with the club prioritizing younger players with lower salary expectations. United’s focus, according to Borson, will likely remain on more affordable signings as they aim to reduce their wage expenditures.

Despite these concerns, Osimhen has been in impressive form for Galatasaray this season, scoring 22 goals and providing five assists in 28 appearances. However, it seems unlikely that Manchester United will pursue a move for the striker at this time.
