The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor Rauf Aregbesola pending disciplinary proceedings against him.
This decision follows a resolution from the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee, which accused Aregbesola of engaging in anti-party activities.
The Ilesa East Executive Committee believes that the suspension is necessary to restore discipline within the party and to deter similar actions by other members. The allegations against Aregbesola include forming splinter groups, collaborating with opposition parties to undermine the APC, and making public criticisms of party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Aregbesola, who served two terms as governor and was once a close ally of Tinubu, has faced criticism for his perceived support of opposition factions during recent elections. In response to the suspension, the Osun State APC’s Disciplinary Committee has formally requested Aregbesola to provide a response, ensuring that due process is followed according to the party’s constitution.
Sources close to Aregbesola have described the suspension and allegations as politically motivated, suggesting that they are part of a strategy by the state party leadership to remove him from the APC.
Aregbesola has not publicly commented on the suspension, leaving the matter open to interpretation.
