Over 7 Million In Borno, Adamawa & Yobe States Will Require Humanitarian Assistance In 2026 – OCHA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has projected an estimated 7.8 million women, men, and children across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states will require humanitarian assistance in 2026.

According to a Statement from the UN body, over 1.8 million of the lot have been forced to flee their homes and are internally displaced due to persistent violence.

Additionally, nearly 1.4 million people have returned to their homes but lack access to essential services and livelihoods, while about 4.6 million are host community members, who are also facing the consequences of the conflict.

It is in the face of these grim realities that the humanitarian community under the auspices of OCHA, would be launching the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) to address the needs of those affected by this multi-faceted crisis.

The launch of the HNRP serves as a critical opportunity for the Government of Nigeria at both State and Federal levels, local organizations, donors, and the international community to demonstrate their continued commitment to supporting affected people in north-east Nigeria.
