Owerri Catholic Archdiocese Confirms Kidnap of Reverend Faith

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has confirmed the abduction of Reverend Father John Ubaechu, the parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to a statement from the Archdiocese, signed by Secretary Reverend Father Patrick Mbarah, the priest was kidnapped on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, while traveling along Ejemekwuru Road on his way to the Priests’ Annual Retreat.

The Archdiocese has called on all Christian faithful and individuals of goodwill to fervently pray for the swift and safe return of Father Ubaechu.

In response to the kidnapping, the Imo State Police Command, through spokesperson Henry Okoye, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, has initiated an investigation into the incident. An intelligence-driven operation has been launched to ensure the unconditional release of the priest.

The police have also appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation and the safe recovery of Father Ubaechu.
