Owowoh Makes History as the First Nigerian Female Cadet to Graduate from Royal Military Academy

Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has broken barriers and made history by becoming the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. During RMAS’ Sovereign’s Parade in London, the 24-year-old Princess was among the 135 Officer Cadets who graduated from Commissioning Course 232 after completing 44 weeks of intensive training. The ceremony was graced by Général d’armée Pierre SchilI, Chief of the Army Staff, who represented His Majesty King Charles at the event.

Notably, Princess’ achievement as the 190th Nigerian graduate and the first female graduate is a significant milestone and attests to the UK’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s Professional Military Education training, a commitment that was reinforced during the UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership meeting in February 2024.

In 2018, Princess enrolled at the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) where she excelled. During her tenure, Princess was appointed a Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year, a Cadet Sergeant in her fourth year, and Company Senior Under Officer Charlie (CSUO C) in her fifth year. She made history with two of her female counterparts as the first females to take up the position of CSUO in the academy. In her fourth year, she completed the Academics Wing of the commissioning course and graduated with first-class honours in Biological Sciences.

Princess acknowledged that her achievement was a collective endeavour that involved the unwavering support of her family, mentors, instructors, and numerous individuals who believed in her every step of the way. Looking ahead, she is committed to representing Nigeria with distinction and creating a positive impact in the world.

“It is a profound honour to be the first Nigerian female officer to commission from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This achievement is not mine alone, but a testament to the unwavering support of my family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in me every step of the way. As I look ahead to the future, I am committed to representing Nigeria with pride, and to making a positive difference in the world,” Officer Cadet Oluchukwu said.

The UK is proud to join Nigeria in commemorating this historic milestone and congratulates newly Commissioned Officer Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu on her remarkable achievement.
