Oyo bans teachers from holding meetings during school hours

The Oyo State Government has implemented a strict ban on all meetings by head teachers and teachers during school hours, both within and outside public school premises.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Nureni Adeniran on Tuesday while he was overseeing the resumption of schools in Ibadan, the state capital.

“This is a warning to all head teachers and teachers to desist from holding meetings during school hours. Henceforth, any primary school head teacher who indulges in such act will be severely dealt with,” Adeniran declared. He emphasized that the ban aims to ensure that school hours are dedicated solely to educational activities.

To enforce this directive, Adeniran instructed the Education Secretaries to disseminate the information to all head teachers in their respective Local Government areas.

In a related development, Adeniran highlighted the board’s ongoing efforts to incorporate technology into the education system to drive progress. During a three-day training session on the BESDA Attendance Monitoring Information System, he stressed the importance of the BAMID APP in enhancing educational practices.

“We have brought you together to develop your skills on the use of BAMID APP,” Adeniran explained, praising the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for developing the BAMIS APP. The app is designed to improve various aspects of school management, including input and output performance, punctuality, regularity, and the monitoring and evaluation of learning activities.

Adeniran acknowledged the substantial investment of time and resources by the board in the program, underlining its significance for the delivery of basic education, which is a core mandate of SUBEB. He also urged unions and associations within the basic education sector to strictly adhere to the new policies as the school session begins.
