PDP Confirms Sunday Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary Following Court Ruling

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially affirmed Sunday Udeh-Okoye, the former National Youth Leader, as the party’s National Secretary.

This decision comes after careful consideration of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, which recognized Udeh-Okoye as the duly elected National Secretary. In a statement released on Wednesday, the party confirmed that it is bound by the court’s ruling and will forward its resolution to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities for formal recognition.

The statement, signed by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, outlined that the NWC discussed the issue at its meeting on February 12, 2025, following a memo presented by the Acting National Chairman. The memo included key documents such as the declaratory judgment from the High Court of Enugu and the Court of Appeal ruling, which declared Udeh-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary. Additionally, legal opinions were considered from Dr. Kabiru T. Turaki SAN and the party’s National Legal Adviser.

“The NWC overwhelmingly recognizes, acknowledges, and confirms Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP in full compliance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal,” the statement read. The PDP emphasized that the court’s decision is final, with no further superseding orders from any higher court.

The party further assured that it is already initiating the process of transmitting its affirmation of Udeh-Okoye to INEC and other relevant bodies as mandated by the court’s ruling.

In its statement, the PDP also expressed appreciation for the loyalty and support shown by its leaders, members, and stakeholders, noting their commitment to the rule of law. The party reiterated its dedication to its Constitution and to promoting stability, growth, democracy, and the well-being of Nigerians.
