PDP Demands Immediate Release of Arrested Voters in Edo Governorship Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of voters, including its members and supporters, who were allegedly arrested during the ongoing Edo governorship election.

In a statement released on Saturday, signed by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the party asserted that police harassment will not impede the success of its candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

The PDP claims the arrests are part of a coordinated effort by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in collusion with certain compromised police officials to intimidate and suppress the electorate in Edo State.

The statement declared, “This is part of the APC’s coordinated plot, in collusion with certain compromised police officials, to harass and intimidate the people of Edo State, having realized that it has lost the poll.” It cited a specific incident involving the alleged abduction of a voter by APC-affiliated gunmen at Uromi Ward 8, Unit 3, while he was waiting to cast his vote, characterizing this as a desperate act indicative of the APC’s panic in light of impending defeat.

The PDP reminded the public of its previous warnings regarding the APC’s attempts to undermine the electoral process through voter intimidation. The statement emphasized that Asue Ighodalo is gaining significant support, reflecting the people’s resolve to reject the APC.

The PDP urged the citizens of Edo State to remain resilient and continue to defend their democratic rights and votes, assuring them that their ultimate victory at the polls is within reach.
