PDP Governors Forum Reschedules NEC Meeting to Strengthen Unity Ahead of Ondo Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has announced the rescheduling of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from October 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024.

This decision was made during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro.

In a communiqué issued by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, the postponement aims to ensure the party approaches the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections, scheduled for November 16, 2024, with the necessary unity and strength to challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

The meeting also addressed the need to resolve internal disunity among party members. “We must shun divisive utterances that could undermine our ongoing efforts to strengthen the party,” the communiqué stated, emphasizing the importance of solidarity as the PDP prepares to regain its position as the country’s main opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

This gathering involved key stakeholders, including members of the PDP Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus, as well as the Forum of Former Governors.

The meeting follows a recent internal crisis within the party, which has seen the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, suspend the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Ajibade.

In a retaliatory move, Ologunagba and Ajibade suspended Damagum and Anyanwu, resulting in a stalemate that the PDP Governors Forum sought to resolve.

Governor Bala Mohammed called for a ceasefire and a return to the status quo in an effort to unify the party amid these tensions.
