Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have summoned the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and other key party officials to a critical meeting on Tuesday.
This gathering precedes the National Executive Committee (NEC) session scheduled for Thursday.
During the meeting, the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led reconciliation committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the party’s National Working Committee. Oyinlola emphasized the importance of understanding the challenges facing the party politically during a recent address to journalists following discussions with the PDP National Assembly caucus in Abuja.
“As part of our assignment, we’ve scheduled meetings to gather insights from National Assembly members about the party’s dwindling fortunes,” Oyinlola stated. He expressed optimism that the discussions would yield valuable suggestions to strengthen party unity and effectiveness.
He highlighted the necessity of solidarity within the party to succeed in upcoming political battles, asserting, “For any party to enter into a political battle and win, it must be united.”
Additionally, Oyinlola indicated that the party is refining its strategies in preparation for the Ondo State governorship election and working to reconcile aggrieved party members to present a united front.
In related developments, there are indications that ex-Senate President David Mark, former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, and Emmanuel Agbo, Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, have emerged as frontrunners to succeed the embattled acting national chairman.
