The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ude Okoye, along with other prominent party figures, visited the party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, following his resignation from the party earlier this week.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos, Adediran’s spokesman, Gbenga Ogunleye, confirmed the visit. The delegation included former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, and ex-House of Representatives member, Shina Peller. They met with Adediran at his Abuja office, urging him to reconsider his decision and rejoin the PDP.
Adediran, the leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, resigned from the PDP on Monday, citing feelings of betrayal and a lack of discipline within the party. His decision came after months of internal tensions within the PDP in Lagos State. Shortly after his resignation, the PDP leaders made a swift move to meet with him, hoping to persuade him to withdraw his resignation.
Ogunleye stated that while Adediran acknowledged the support from the PDP leaders, he assured them that he would continue to collaborate with political allies, despite their differences in political affiliations. He reiterated that his next steps in his political journey would be revealed in the coming months.
Adediran’s departure from the party, which he announced alongside his supporters across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State, has left the PDP facing questions about its internal divisions. He had expressed frustration with the PDP’s failure to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Lagos State chapter, alongside his perception of betrayal by party elders.
The party leaders’ visit signifies their ongoing efforts to resolve the situation, with hopes of mending the rift and bringing Jandor back into the fold.
