PDP suspends Dino Melaye for anti-party activities

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of Dino Melaye, citing alleged anti-party activities. The decision was made by the Ward Party Executive Committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 following a review of a disciplinary committee’s report on Melaye’s conduct.

According to a statement released on Friday, the suspension is effective immediately. The resolution, signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Ward Secretary Yodson Dayo, read:

“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party. His continued membership is no longer tenable. Therefore, the Ward Party Executive Committee hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately.”

The resolution outlines that the decision was reached after Melaye failed to appear before the disciplinary committee on August 20, 2024, to address allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities. The committee’s inability to question Melaye was seen as a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.

The statement further notes:

“After careful consideration and deliberation, the Ward Party Exco resolved as follows:

  1. Senator Dino Melaye’s failure to appear before the Disciplinary Committee constitutes a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.
  2. His actions are in clear violation of the PDP Constitution and the principles of party discipline.
  3. Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable.

This suspension aligns with Article 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution, which authorizes the Ward Party Executive Committee to take disciplinary actions against erring members. We urge all members of our great party to remain committed to the principles of party discipline and loyalty. We must work together to build a strong and united party, capable of winning elections and serving the interests of our people.”

The suspension underscores ongoing internal challenges within the PDP as it seeks to address and resolve conflicts among its members while maintaining party unity and discipline.
