Peruvian Authorities Launch Investigation After Shakira’s Medical Records Leaked

Peruvian authorities have launched an investigation into the leak of Shakira’s medical records, threatening the clinic involved with heavy fines and sanctions.
The 48-year-old Grammy-winning Colombian singer was admitted to a Lima hospital’s emergency room on Saturday for treatment of an abdominal condition, forcing her to cancel a highly anticipated concert the following day.
Shortly after her hospitalization, details of her medical treatment were leaked to social media, sparking widespread outrage and prompting an official inquiry.
Peru’s national health service watchdog, which has begun investigating the breach, revealed that the clinic could face fines up to $430,000 for violating privacy laws.
“We are in the process of gathering information. Yesterday we met with clinic officials, and their explanations are confidential,” said Ruby Cubas, a spokeswoman for the health service. The investigation is expected to conclude in 25 days.
The Delgado Clinic, where Shakira received care, issued a statement condemning the breach as a violation of ethical standards and regulations regarding patient privacy.
The clinic confirmed that internal disciplinary actions were being taken against those responsible.
Shakira, currently on her first world tour in seven years, performed in Lima on Monday night, expressing gratitude to her Peruvian fans. “So much love and care you’ve given me!!” she said on social media.
Her “Las mujeres ya no lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore) tour, which began in Rio de Janeiro, has been a major success, and Shakira recently earned a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. The singer dedicated her award to migrants facing deportation in the U.S. under the Trump administration.
With over 90 million records sold globally, Shakira remains one of the most iconic Latin artists of her generation.
