Petrol Tanker Explosion Contained Near Jigawa-Kano Border

An explosion involving a petrol tanker occurred along the Jigawa-Kano border in Dutse Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State on Tuesday, marking the second tanker-related incident in the state within a month. Thanks to the swift response of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the fire was quickly contained, preventing further disaster.

Aliyu M. A., Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. He detailed the Fire Service’s prompt response after receiving a distress call from Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad, at approximately 10:43 a.m. regarding a tanker accident in Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village along Maiduri Road. “The FFS responded promptly, arriving at the scene at 10:50 hours. The fire was contained and brought under control,” Aliyu stated.

This incident follows another tragic explosion on October 15 along the Kano-Hadejia expressway in Taura LGA, where a petrol tanker explosion claimed the lives of over 173 people, with many others injured. Most of the victims in that incident had attempted to scoop petrol from the overturned tanker, a risky practice that has led to devastating consequences.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances behind these repeated incidents, they are also warning citizens about the dangers of approaching fuel-laden tankers, especially in cases of accidents.
