Police arrest six for vandalism in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended six individuals in connection with the theft of street lights and the vandalism of high-tension wires.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Adam, the suspects were arrested in two separate operations.

The first operation took place on February 26, 2025, at around 2:30 am, when two suspects, Sadik Sani, 18, and Ahmed Rabi’u, 19, were caught vandalizing street light armoured cable wires. “The suspects admitted to the crime, stating they were delivering the stolen wires to a scrap vendor, who is currently on the run,” Adam explained.

In a related incident, three more suspects—Abdu Ibrahim, 55, Idris Adamu, 53, and Musa Magaji, 50—were arrested on February 28, 2025, for the theft of about 2,000 meters of high-tension wire. “The suspects also confessed to the crime and named one Musa Yahya as their receiver,” Adam added. Musa Yahya, 30, was reportedly aware that the cables were stolen and were government property.

All six suspects have been charged in court. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those involved in criminal activities are brought to justice,” Adam stated.

Additionally, the police conducted raids at Tout Joint and Sara Lungu, where seven suspects were arrested and various illicit drugs were seized. “The suspects were found with a variety of drugs, including Exol, D5, Lara, Diazepam, Tramadol, and Indian hemp,” the PPRO reported.

The police command has issued a stern warning that it will not tolerate any form of criminal activity in the state. “We urge the public to continue to support us in our efforts to maintain law and order,” the statement concluded.
