The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong condemnation over the viral circulation of outdated videos depicting alleged police brutality and misconduct.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, warned that the trend is dangerous and misleading, especially at a time when the force is undergoing reform and retraining.
Adejobi clarified that many of the videos being circulated on social media are years old and have no connection to current events or police actions.
He urged Nigerians to verify content before sharing, noting that the spread of misinformation could incite unrest and damage the reputation of the police unfairly.
The police have reiterated their commitment to transparency and called on the public to report misconduct through official channels rather than amplify unverified content.
The statement also encouraged media platforms to join efforts in fact-checking sensitive content to maintain peace and order.
