The Nigeria Police Headquarters has refuted claims made in a viral video that allegedly shows its personnel scooping fuel from the scene of a crashed petrol tanker. Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, clarified that the individuals in the video are not Nigerian police officers, but uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone country.
He stated, “The video circulating in the media, which shows uniformed personnel in camouflage taking fuel from the wreckage of a tanker, was deliberately released to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. It is important to note that the individuals in the video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force. They are personnel from a neighboring country, whose camouflage uniforms resemble those of the Nigeria Police.”
Adejobi further explained that the individuals in the video were speaking in French, not in any Nigerian language or English. He strongly condemned the spread of such misleading and unverified content, emphasizing that it undermines the integrity of the police force and has detrimental consequences for the nation.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, remains committed to upholding discipline, professionalism, and the safety and security of Nigerians. Any actions that compromise the force’s reputation will not be tolerated,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to be cautious and verify information before sharing it, to promote national unity and preserve the credibility of institutions working diligently for public safety.
