Police operatives in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued a kidnapped victim. The operation was prompted by a distress call to the Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters about the abduction of one Tor Gajir by gunmen in the area.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed that the rescue operation took place on December 31, 2024. Following the distress call, investigations were quickly launched, leading police operatives to a suspect, Desmond Ahar. During interrogation, Ahar admitted to being part of the kidnapping gang and led the police to the victim’s location in Adikpo, Benue State.
Upon reaching the kidnappers’ hideout, the operatives were met with gunfire. In the ensuing shootout, three of the suspects were killed, while others fled with gunshot wounds. The victim was rescued unharmed and given immediate medical attention to assess any physical or psychological effects.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and several rounds of ammunition. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons are ongoing.
In a separate operation, operatives from the Nasarawa State Police Command discovered an abandoned Sienna vehicle on December 28, 2024, along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway in Angwan Wayo Village, suspected to have been involved in a kidnapping attack. Police followed the trail and rescued two hostages, who were unharmed. Ongoing efforts are underway to capture the kidnappers who escaped.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the operatives for their success and urged them to maintain their efforts in ensuring internal security and safety across Nigeria.
He commended their bravery and dedication to protecting communities and called on the public to remain vigilant and support efforts to ensure national security.
