The Nigerian Police Force has announced it will review the procedures of deployment of policemen to individuals to improve public safety and security.
Nigerian Police spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this in a tweet.
Adejobi said this in his reaction to a video which went viral on Twitter showing at least ten police officers following an individual around in his compound.
The Police spokesman while replying a tweet which asked why the individual had a lot of officers guarding him said the deployment of policemen to individuals will surely be reviewed and regularised.
“We have set up a committee to look into the process of withdrawing our PMF/tactical men from such services and use them for the announced Quick Intervention Squad.”
He said when the committee submits its report, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun will act as fast as possible to implement the policy.
Adejobi added this is of importance as the country needs more men to police the general public than a few individuals.
On the possibility of the police standing by a policy which will see private security outfits taking the role of body guards, he said that no one stops the private security guards.
