President Bola Tinubu has approved the historic appointment of Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the new Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), making her the first female to occupy this significant position within the agency.
Adekaiyaoja, a native of Kogi State, will take on this leadership role as part of the president’s broader efforts to reorganize and strengthen the DSS for improved performance. Although the presidency has yet to issue an official statement, sources familiar with the development confirmed the appointment, noting that it is part of Tinubu’s push to restore professionalism within the service.
The appointment of Adekaiyaoja is not only a historic milestone for the DSS but also aligns with the president’s vision to promote career progression among operatives within the agency. The recommendation for Adekaiyaoja’s appointment came from National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, who proposed her name through Oluwatosin Ajayi, the Director-General of the DSS.
The appointment follows President Tinubu’s December 2024 directive to security agencies, urging them to explore innovative ways to enhance service delivery and improve operational efficiency. Adekaiyaoja’s new role is seen as a key step in realizing these objectives.
Additionally, President Tinubu has pledged to equip the DSS and other security agencies with advanced technology, including artificial intelligence-powered tools, to bolster the country’s efforts in combating insecurity.
The appointment of Adekaiyaoja reflects the administration’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s security infrastructure and ensuring greater professionalism within its agencies.
