President Tinubu Approves Conversion of Federal College to University of Allied Health Sciences

 

 

In a move aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s healthcare sector, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the conversion of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, into a full-fledged University of Allied Health Sciences.

This transformation underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to nurturing robust human resources essential for advancing healthcare and social welfare in the nation.

The announcement, conveyed through a statement by the President’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, signifies a strategic step towards expanding educational opportunities in the healthcare domain.

With this approval, the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu will be rebranded as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will operate under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

President Tinubu’s directive aligns with broader initiatives aimed at fortifying Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure and workforce.

As the African Union (AU) Champion for Human Resources for Health, President Tinubu has unveiled ambitious plans to address critical healthcare challenges nationwide.

These include training 120,000 frontline health workers within 16 months, doubling the number of primary health facilities across local communities, and significantly increasing the graduation rate of health personnel from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the next three years.

The comprehensive approach outlined by President Tinubu reflects a proactive stance towards meeting the evolving healthcare needs of Nigerians.

By expanding educational institutions and enhancing training opportunities, the conversion of the Federal College to a university underscores a strategic investment in human capital, crucial for delivering accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services across the nation.
