President Bola Tinubu has dismissed calls for a probe into the Service Chiefs, stating that it would be disrespectful to undermine their work amid the ongoing fight against terrorism and other security challenges in Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the President affirmed his satisfaction with the performance of the security heads, adding that there were effective mechanisms in place to ensure the proper use of allocated funds in the security sector.
“I am not probing the Service Chiefs. You cannot disrespect the institutions because of the threat of a probe,” Tinubu said. “You cannot fight this war without proper investment in technology, weapons, and training.”
The President acknowledged that while there might be minor inefficiencies or leakages, these were not significant and assured that stringent controls were in place to monitor budget releases. He emphasized that the welfare of the country’s military personnel was crucial, highlighting the challenging conditions in which they operate.
Tinubu also praised the efforts of Nigeria’s armed forces, noting that they face significant challenges due to the country’s vast land area, forests, and unoccupied spaces. “Consider the welfare of our service men and women,” he said. “They are operating in very serious conditions. I am proud of what they are doing today. There is no need for a probe.”
