President Tinubu Establishes Two New Universities in Osun and Ekiti States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially assented to two bills that will establish new universities in Nigeria: the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

This was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that these specialized institutions are designed to address the educational needs of the country. They will focus on research, innovation, and the development of professionals in agriculture, science, and technology, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.

President Tinubu emphasized that these universities would enhance the nation’s competitiveness globally, particularly in sectors crucial to economic development. These institutions add to the 63 approved federal universities in Nigeria, alongside 63 state universities and 149 private universities.

Additionally, the President recently approved the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State, and a government takeover of a forfeited private university in Southern Kaduna, transforming it into a federal university.
