President Tinubu Promotes Aide-De-Camp to Colonel

President Bola Tinubu has officially promoted his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Nurudeen Yusuf, to the rank of Colonel in a ceremony held on Thursday at the State House in Abuja.

Yusuf, who was appointed as the President’s ADC in April 2023, prior to Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, received the new rank following a Nigerian Army promotion issued on December 19, 2024. The promotion’s seniority, however, took effect from September 22, 2023. Yusuf, who was previously a Lieutenant Colonel, was described by President Tinubu as a “reliable officer, deserving of elevation in rank.”

In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Yusuf for his dedication, professionalism, and temperament, expressing confidence that the newly promoted Colonel would achieve even greater heights in his military career.

“You all know Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf. He carries a lot of responsibilities. I am joyous that the military authorities have promoted my ADC,” President Tinubu remarked. “He is worthy of the promotion, and I am very happy for him. Nurudeen is a diligent and reliable officer with the right temperament. I believe he will go farther and farther in his profession.”

The President further praised Yusuf’s character, stating, “Character defines man, and it has defined you. With your promotion, you are highly respected. From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you. We thank God for you. May God bless our armed forces and keep them safe.”

Acknowledging the role of Yusuf’s family, Tinubu also praised his wife for “keeping the home front steady, calm, and reliable” throughout his service.

In his address, Yusuf expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust placed in him and the opportunity to serve as his ADC. He thanked the President for his leadership and guidance, emphasizing that the promotion was a significant milestone in his career.

“I stand here today filled with immense gratitude and humility as I reflect on this remarkable occasion of my decoration with the rank of Colonel in the Nigerian Army,” Yusuf said. “This moment is a personal milestone and a testament to the enduring values of the unwavering support of those around me.”

Yusuf also expressed appreciation to the Almighty Allah for His grace, which he attributed as the driving force behind his achievements.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahmon, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Chief of Defense Staff Christopher Musa, and Minister of State for Defense Bello Matawalle. Also present were Yusuf’s mother, Kudirat Yusuf, his wife, Ganiyat Yusuf, and his daughter, Abiodun Yusuf.
