President Bola Tinubu has initiated a highly anticipated cabinet reshuffle, starting with the dismissal of five ministers and nominating seven new ones for Senate confirmation.
In addition, ten ministers were reassigned to new portfolios, as part of a broader effort to enhance the administration’s effectiveness.
Among the new nominations are Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, succeeding Betta Edu, whose tenure has come to an end.
Other nominees include Maigari Dingyadi for Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole for Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha for the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The ministers who were relieved of their duties include Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to approach their roles as a call to serve the nation.
He emphasized the importance of focusing on Nigeria’s irreversible growth and called on his appointees to give their best efforts toward the actualization of the government’s priorities.
