Pro-Fubara Group Rejects Calls for Governor’s Resignation, Impeachment

The Supreme Council for Sim, a prominent political group aligned with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly condemned recent calls for his resignation or impeachment, particularly those made by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Tony Okocha.

Okocha had publicly demanded that Fubara step down or face impeachment, accusing the governor of mismanaging the state, breaching legal norms, and disrespecting President Bola Tinubu, who had previously intervened in the state’s political crisis with a detailed eight-point agenda.

At a media briefing held in Port Harcourt, two influential leaders of the pro-Fubara group responded, labeling Okocha’s remarks as unnecessarily provocative and divisive.

Joshua Fubara, the group’s convener, issued a stern warning to Okocha and others advocating for the governor’s removal, cautioning them not to mistake Fubara’s measured and humble approach for weakness.

He argued that had the governor opted for the aggressive, confrontational tactics favored by some, the state would have been plunged into disarray, rather than moving towards stability.

Fubara further emphasized that the governor’s performance has more than earned him the opportunity for a second term, a cause that the group is already fervently championing. “Rivers State should be looking ahead to a prosperous future under Fubara’s leadership,” he stated, asserting that the people of Rivers deserve continuity and progress.

Esezi Obilor-Rukani, another key leader of the group, firmly rejected the impeachment threats, arguing that Fubara had not engaged in any behavior that warranted such drastic action.

He praised the governor for his leadership grounded in integrity and compassion, highlighting his significant accomplishments, such as the long-awaited promotion of civil servants after an eight-year delay and the implementation of an ₦85,000 minimum wage.

Obilor-Rukani also lauded Fubara’s prudent management of state resources, which has led to substantial investments in critical areas like road construction, healthcare, and education infrastructure.

In addition, the group underscored the importance of unity and collaboration following the Supreme Court ruling, urging all political factions to come together for the collective good of the state.

They called on the Rivers State House of Assembly to take the necessary steps to engage in meaningful dialogue with the governor before the resumption of legislative activities.

The group believes that such a dialogue would go a long way in easing tensions, fostering mutual understanding, and ensuring a more cooperative political environment.

In a time of increasing political polarization, the Supreme Council for Sim is making a passionate case for unity, stability, and the continued leadership of Governor Fubara, calling for reason over rhetoric and collaboration over confrontation.
